Job description:
- Responsible for performing and overseeing all aspects of coating activities to ensure compliance with project-specific requirements in accordance with company standards.
Ensure that the project’s specific coating activities are performed on time and within budget in accordance with project requirements.
Candidates will ideally have proven experience in coating and/or structural/pipes/vessels and will be comfortable working in a high-pressure, fast-paced, and challenging environment.

Tasks/Activities:

Background:
During the Total Plant Shutdown (TPSD) period—approximately November 1 through 25, 2022—TPSD Area Lifting Supervisors are required to work on a rotating 4/4/4 shift schedule, overseeing, supervising, and ensuring that safe practices are followed at all times for all lifting and rigging operations in their designated area.
The TPSD is a time-critical operation; delays caused by any reason are unacceptable; therefore, supervision of all activities must be absolutely first-rate in every area.
Objectives:

- Provide guidance on the level of detail required for support requests and ensure that the descriptions are clear and complete, so that each request submitted by end users contains sufficient information.

Job summary:
To coordinate multidisciplinary engineering services internally within the Engineering Department (Process, Civil, Structural, Piping, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Drafting, and Document Control), as well as with other Ambatovy departments (Project Execution, Project Controls, Operations, Maintenance, Supply Chain Management, HSE, Quality, Asset Integrity, Asset Reliability, QA/QC) and necessary consultants, specialist service companies, OEMs, vendors, and contractors associated with the Ore Slurry Pipeline Project and for the ancillary projects related to the Ore Slurry Pipeline Project.
The PRINCIPAL ENGINEER (PE) serves as the accountable business partner for a designated production area, working with other stakeholders to identify the engineering solutions and modifications necessary to optimize operations in that area. The other key stakeholders include operations, asset integrity, project execution, maintenance, and reliability teams. Once the requirements of a project or work request have been identified and outlined in the formal request (“one-pager”), the Principal Engineer must then assemble a team of engineers from various disciplines, with the assistance of the Technical Authorities (TA) and Head Discipline Engineers, to deliver a fully engineered, safe, timely, and cost-effective solution that includes all necessary drawings, calculations, and procedures.

The Project Execution Department manages capital investment and OPEX projects. This requires project engineers who can work independently, in a group, or as part of a program, under the direction and guidance of a superintendent. Project engineers are responsible for preparing, executing, and delivering all projects assigned to them—with an individual value of less than US$5 million—safely, on time, to a high standard, and within budget.
He or she is responsible for leading each project, related to electricity and instrumentation, with a clearly defined strategy, while also serving as the point of contact for all stakeholders (clients, contractors, management, and other departments).
He or she is also assisting the Senior Project Engineer with larger and more complex capital projects during the execution phase.

Quality inspections conducted by the client have revealed significant wear in several sections of the ore slurry pipeline.
The lifespan of this slurry pipeline, by section, has been assessed based on actual corrosion and erosion rates. Preliminary results indicate the following:
- 70 km of pipeline to be replaced by the first quarter of 2023 (sections 1A and 1B)
- 50 km of pipeline to be replaced by the third quarter of 2023 (sections 2A, 2B, and 2C)

- Coordinate and supervise multiple work areas throughout the day
- Identify shortcomings and draw on work experience to develop potential solutions during project implementation
- Assist project engineers with day-to-day project delivery activities
- Prepare documents, reports, and construction-related communications as needed
- Work with field teams and assist members of the design and construction teams as needed to meet operational deliverables
- Maintain equipment and materials, and conduct routine site inspections
- Coordinate with other stakeholders during the project to ensure that all equipment and materials needed to complete the work are available
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of all construction methods and material requirements
- Assist in efficiently resolving site-specific design and construction issues as they arise
- Provide site supervision as needed
- Maintain a healthy and safe work environment by enforcing procedures and standards and complying with legal regulations during project execution
Requirements for references and experience (Qualifications/Technical Skills/Experience):
- Ability to travel
- Mobility, fitness, and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team (both in an office setting and in remote locations)
- A well-organized and systematic approach
- At least 10 years of experience in construction coordination and supervision of contractors and subcontractors on civil engineering and earthworks projects
- Good understanding of construction operations and processes
- Experience working in developing countries is a plus
- Background in change management and risk assessment
- Solid experience in construction supervision and coordination
- A solid background in supervising technical staff and reviewing construction drawings
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Ability to use MS Project
- Fluency in English is required
- Fluency in French is an asset
- Strong relationship-building and management skills
